Red Velvet Genetics
It is fair to claim, the Red Velvet strain was created by Grandiflora. Red Velvet is a deep dive down a rabbit hole, and a journey to a place you have never been. This Red Velvet cut has been grown again and again by the folks at Moca in Humboldt County. In the Spring of 2024, when Moca’s co-owner and co-founder and fucking farmer Nate was asked what stood out to him after growing and releasing a new strain each week for a year. Nate’s reply was Red Velvet. So deep in the coffers of the HENDRX library, the strain was nearly invisible until this moment. Who bred the Red Velvet, and what is the cross? In this case, the Grandiflora themselves, Prada specifically tells us in plain Bay Area english, that he and Mark selected the Red Velvet cut from a cross of Lemon Cherry Gelato X Pîna Açai. Promising velvety texture and suggesting Red Velvet to end your night. Photo pictured here grown at Moca Humboldt, Nate suggests that the Red Velvet grows “in between medium to tall height and gets nice conical buds.” Adding recommendations for farmers that strain “needs to be pruned up higher and thinned out” in order for the size underneath and bud structure of the flower to properly fill in. Fuel forward candy citrus with notes of basil add to the beautiful aromas, and heavy full bodied smoke. A pleasure to enjoy.
Red Velvet Cannabinoids
After stalking the Grandiflora and Moca Instagram, we swing over the compelling story of science and the cannabinoids that drive the market. Red Velvet is δ-limonene dominant. Starting there and layering market demand based on thousands of tested terpene profiles, Red Velvet is off to a good start. Followed by linlool, β-caryophyllene and β-myrcene; descending in that order from highest to lowest concentrations, Red Velvet qualifies for what HENDRX categorizes as having four different dominant terpenes. When compared to test results posted on Reddit from Florida, where Red Velvet made it’s appearance with Grandiflora pioneers Prada & Mark, the profiles align with striking similarity. Testing its highest at Moca Humboldt by SC Labs with more than 35% total THC, it is fair to say the Red Velvet represents itself as authentic, exceeding on paper all current market expectations for the desert menu.
